This site is for the enjoyment of my relatives who wish to help me document the lives of our ancestors.  To help me do this, I request the following:

  • If you are a relative, please join as a member.  Members will have the privilege of adding photos and captions, posting documents, contributing family stories and making relevant comments.
  • Only members will be able to see all the content of the site.  Here are the headings of the complete site, so there is much more to learn by joining as a member:
  • Home
  • Family Trees and More Docs
  • Photos
  • Videos
  • Ancestral Towns
  • Blog
  • Guestbook
  • About the Site
  • Links
  • News
  • Where Do We Live
  • The Family Story
  • Audio
  • Contact
  • Message Board
  • Family Events
  • Recipes

  • I encourage you to make good use of the site by providing content.  If there is a section  you want to add to, but find it is restricted, just let me know and I'll help you with it.
  • There is always going to be an issue with the correct spelling of names due to transliteration.  I will try to be consistent but also make people aware of the different spellings and name changes that occurred.  Please note that names were NOT CHANGED AT ELLIS ISLAND!  This is a complete myth propagated by those who don't know better and even among some of those who do or should know better!  Ship manifests were filled out at the point of departure and names were checked off upon arrival at Ellis Island.  People who changed their names did so on their own after arrival and sometimes spelled their names differently from even their closest relatives.  There was no particular reason why brothers Sam Yesowitch and Morris Yesowitz spelled their names differently.  Not because of anything someone did at Ellis Island.  It was their decision when they began signing their names after arrival.  Their actual name was Josiowicz.
  • If you find any errors, let me know and I will make the appropriate changes.
  • If there is any information that you believe violates your personal privacy, I would be glad to make the appropriate changes.  Generally, I won't post anything that can be seen by the general public.  I want to keep the site for family members only.
  • Please don't be offended if I get something wrong or something appears insensitive.  It is not my intention.  Just let me know of any corrections, and I will take care of it quickly.
  • Please inform other family members of this site and ask them to join.  Even if they don't contribute, I would like to be able to have their contact information.
  • Please feel free to post questions about our relatives.  I will do my best to respond.  There is information I need that I will keep on a list to help spur others to try to find the information.
  • If you already have a family tree or have done research that would be helpful, please share it with me.

On my part, I hope to identify research questions, missing documents, recent search efforts, genealogical sources (in case you want to follow up yourself).

I have working on my family genealogy since 2005, and have traveled to Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, Israel, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine to visit ancestral towns and meet family I had never had the pleasure of meeting.  The excitement of meeting relatives for the first time in Argentina, Brazil, Israel, New York, Pennsylvania, and Montana has been a wonderful experience, and I hope that this effort will bring us all a bit closer before we all forget where we came from.

Be sure to let me know if you have any suggestions or comments about the site and this project.
